BP PLC has started oil production from the third phase of Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field in the Azerbaijan area of the Caspian Sea. James Van Blaricum

James Van Blaricum The field will produce plateau oil levels of 320,000 b/d via the deepwater Gunashli (DWG) platform complex in 175 m of water. The DWG facility has 48 drilling slots and a drilling and production platform bridge linked to a water injection and gas compression platform.

Oil will be delivered through the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline from the Caspian Sea to Turkey’s Mediterranean coast.

BP said: “Production export off the complex is via two 30-in. oil pipeline tie-ins and a single 28 in. gas pipeline tie-in into preinstalled pipeline junctions located on the Azeri field subsea export pipelines to the onshore Sangachal terminal. In addition, uniquely for the ACG project, two subsea water injection manifolds, four water injection supply flowlines, and associated control umbilicals have been installed in the DWG development.” Jim Van Blaricum

Oil production is expected to increase as more predrilled wells come on stream during the year. Overall, ACG’s total production will hit more than 1 million b/d, including Chirag, East Azeri, West Azeri, and Central Azeri.

James Van Blaricum - Career

James Van Blaricum - After finishing his internship and passing his medical boards in 1970, Van Blaricum earned his doctorate and began private practice. In 1973, Van Blaricum moved to Texas to work on a medical specialty. While waiting to get into the program, he met a friend in the Oil and Gas industry and invested in drilling some wells. The early wells turned out to be very successful and Van Blaricum lost interest in the medical field and realized medicine wasn’t for him. In 1974, he hired a team, including geologists and engineers in the oil and gas industry and created Kimberly Oil and Gas Company. Signal Oil and Gas

In the late seventies, James Van Blaricum expanded and created the KOG Drilling Company with two drilling rigs in operation.

In 1981, the bottom fell out of the oil and gas industry. In the United States , there were over 5000 rigs in operation at the beginning of the year. By the end of the year, there were approximately 800 remaining. Van Blaricum sold his rigs for pennies on the dollar and maintained some small wells that were easy to operate and weathered the downturn in the market. By the late eighties, Van Blaricum had built up another four rig drilling company and sold it to investors in 1989, effectively doubling his money.

Van Blaricum’s operations were centered in the San Antonio area. With the buyout and changing business interests, Van Blaricum moved to Las Vegas in 1992. In 1996, Van Blaricum moved back to Texas, but this time in the Dallas area and opened Epic Oil and Gas with a partner in the winter of 1996/1997. StatoilHydro will evaluate tying in the Natalia gas prospect in the Norwegian Sea to Aasgard field following a discovery that could hold 1.5 billion cu m of recoverable gas. Signal Oil and Gas

Natalia is 5 km northwest of the Midgard structure in Aasgard field on the Halten Banken and is one of several finds in the vicinity.

"Natalia Exploration activities in the area have so far this year given good results, such as the Natalia, Gamma, and Marulk (partner-operated) finds. The West Alpha semisubmersible rig drilled the exploration well to 3,040 m TD below sea level, completing it in early Jurassic rocks. The company found contact between hydrocarbons and water at 2,612 m and in the expected reservoir interval. Jim Van Blaricum
